While I painted this, at least the second go-around, I felt as if I were an artist. The spirit was leading me. God was directing my brush. How ever they say it…..the religious artists, the spiritual ones….that’s how I felt.

And when I paint and feel that way, those brush strokes that feel right make my spine literally stretch and my back go straight. Sometimes when I’m there I can’t stop smiling. Any artist will know that when you lay down the yellowy-white and the picture reflects sunlight you have arrived at a good place.

Look for the two birds and the tiger. Look for the man in this picture, and the village. If you can identify them, you get 10% off the price of this piece.

I am beginning to want to show my art. If you have any ideas for me, I’m open — hospitals, restaurants, galleries. I’m open. My art will sell for $1000+ (with some exceptions – those pieces I’m not entirely in love with ).

Nobody seems to know how to price art. So after looking around I see that some very very fine art is going for as low as $100 on e-galleries. Equally as good pieces are selling for $5,000. What’s the difference? Often it is confidence. The $100 woman figures her art is mediocre and sees it as such. The $5,000 guy appreciates the compelling nature of his art, and his own particular gift.

I will start around $1000 only because a lot of art is bought at that level. Enjoy. Thank you!

THE DRIPPING FOREST (2008)

Artists go through different phases and chapters in their careers. When I painted the Dripping Forests I was experimenting with dripping paint. One day previous to the creation of this piece I had dripped a little paint on a painting, as a whim, to get a sense of what it might look like. It was fascinating to watch as that line of red, or blue or green dripped and dripped all the way to the bottom of the canvass.

I think that people look at art through their own filter and determine its meaning based on their own experiences, and therefore saw the dripped art as tears. This is not a sad painting so they must be happy tears.

Dripping art is fun and makes the canvass very full if you allow the paint to drip right off the bottom. Use paint in a bottle and squish it out in globs. The outcome can be fantastic.

I painted this piece while off from work, following a heart attack (hard to write, hard to remember). I was inspired by a book Dianne Keaton has written on Clown art. She pulled together articles from high-profile friends on their thoughts about clowns and then attached a painting to each essay.

It was quite something to read about people’s feelings and thoughts re. clowns. So many people fear them and have a disdain for them. I’ve asked around since and determined that more people hate clowns than love them.

This was strange for me because I’ve never had negative feelings about clowns. I thought they were entertaining and although they were masked/painted, that never scared me. It seems to cause fear in others though to the extend that people equate them with pedophiles and other such daunting people and things.

Regardless, I love my clown and am excited about the clean brush strokes and straight lined approach I took. My paintings are usually more disheveled and it is nice, as an artist, to do a piece from time to time that reflects more realism.

Interestingly, so many artists feel that until you can paint something of a realistic nature you are not an artist. While I don’t feel this way I look forward to the time when I can recreate the Mona Lisa.
