My oldest Friend, David Nefesh
During the ceremony which I skipped, I walked the streets of downtown (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and spent an hour hanging out with a homeless guy…. 28, he’s been on the streets, hopping trains, hitching, since he was 14.
He collects rocks wherever he goes, he wraps them in cheap silver wrap and sells them for a few dollars to earn a few bucks. Anyway, I talked with him about his life, where he’s been, where he’s going, and I bought him a nice meal and gourmet brownie.
It was 8PM and his first frickin meal of the day. It felt so good, and he was so grateful. He said hardly anybody takes the time to even talk with him. It’s amazing how much joy and smiling he’s capable of.
His name: Passed Out.
I swear, that’s how he’s become known as. Tho he can’t do alcohol cuz he’s diabetic. His real name is Alan. I made sure to call him Alan when I said goodbye and wished him well. I thought of you.
